While enjoying a day of much needed rain, I made this card for my up-coming stamp class using liquid colors.
Have you used the versatile Fun Stampers Journey (FSJ) dye-based liquid colors? With 21 colors to chose from, I’m highlighting 3 to make this background: Cool Pool, Lovely Blue and Pretty Amethyst. You’ll get a different design every time you create!
Directions:
I placed 3 drops of Pretty Amethyst and about 6 drops each of Cool Pool and Lovely Blue on my gel press. You can also use a clear block. Then, I sprayed the colors with water. With this technique, I don’t move or tip the gel press because I found my colors got muddy. It’s better to move the color by spraying water. For the most part, the area of the sprayed water and liquid color equaled the size of my cardstock.
Then I took Whip Cream (white) cardstock, and laid it on the gel press to absorb the colors. I like to take any leftovers on my gel press and dip that part of the cardstock that is left white. Clean up is easy with water because the colors are water-based.
Tip: Better to use less liquid color and need to reapply color, than have too much, and it runs off the cardstock and leaves a muddy look.
Let it dry thoroughly or use a heat tool/gun. Cut to fit the layer for the card. For the base I used Chambray Shirt cardstock for a A2 size 4 1/4 in. x 5 1/2 in. Journey Brush Gold paper – second layer, 4 in. x 5 1/4 in. Stamped cardstock – third layer, 3 3/4 in. x 5 in.
Next, using the gold embossing powder, emboss with the Beauty Bloom stamp set. Then, I embossed the butterfly from the Strength & Hope stamp set.
For the next part, I used Lovely Blue Liquid Color and colored in the flower petals with a Journey Blending Brush. I followed the same technique using the gel press from earlier. The embossing helped keep the color locked in and made it easy and fun! For the butterfly, I used all three colors. I noticed that even though I was using blue, the shades from the first technique showed through on the petals. It looks like I shaded, and I love it!
Next step is to chose a sentiment. My area was small, so I chose a small sentiment. A good go-to stamp set is Mini Greetings. I stamped the sentiment with clear pigment ink on velum and heat set with gold embossing powder. I cut the velum to the size I wanted and stapled on the cardstock BEFORE attaching to the base cardstock, otherwise your staple shows, and I’m all about hiding things! The reason I stamped on the velum was to give the card movement. With the flowers and butterfly embossed directly to the cardstock is appears flat, so the velum lifts the eye and adds interest to the card.
Finally, attach all the layers! Just think, with all the color options, you too, can have some beautiful cards!
